Why "The Alternative" ? (The Story)

Being a regular recordshopper myself, my favourite "Hotmix" shop in The Hague closed down in 1994, walking back to the railwaystation I
understood that I had to start my own shop to get these hard to get Chicago & Detroit techno goodies, which I always bought there (UR,KMS,Drexiya,EXperimental,Plus 8,Dan Curtin)
Nobody else was doing this stuff in Holland at that time, or in real small quantities. So it became an "Alternative" to the regular record shops in Amsterdam & soon the freaks
came out and had a look. The first record we sold was the Carl Craig 12" of K7's "DJ Kicks", the second record we had in stock was the infamous Dopplereffect album.
I did not have any feelings with "commercial" club music at that time & was only into US Techno & Electro, I played disco music for weddings, this was an inheritance from
the neighbourhood I grew up. 1997 was the first year I went to New York (a present from my Girlfriend) & I came back with loads & loads of records, this was an eyeopener because
for the first time I had something with "clubmusic" recordlabels like Wavemusic (Francois K.),Naked,King Street,Masters At Work began to attract my attention, the -mostly- heavyweight
US House-sound tickled my soul. Since then i've been there 5 times,it is my target to go there once a year.

Now we are in the year 2004 & we have countless hypes every month : my mission is to seperate the wheat from the chaff (as you know..there are thousands of really horrible records pressed over the last years) & to provide anyone the best & newest music available,we have many dutch club-dj's as client so that's why you see some "commercial" tracks in our House-Listening booth, this is not an admission of weakness to the underground ; the answer is simple: The guys NEED the tracks to get the floor jumpin', and that's what a DJ must do...to get & to keep the crowd going & most important for the people who are hiring you : to keep the audience inside the building !!
In our Technobooth you will find all the techno we like : The Swedish Giants, the banging UK Geezers, The Geman Mind-Twisters & the more US/Detroit/Soulfull-Electro-Techno which we still like most, not many shops in the Netherlands carry this kind of soulfull techno.

All in all we try to be a perfect shop with one leg in the "Upperground" & one leg in the "Underground", with as fast as possible delivery times, up to date listening
booths, correct service & competitive prices. At the moment we have clients in the USA/Germany/UK/Japan/Spain/France/Austria/Norway etc.

Just try us & you'll know what we mean !
